This week was very short seeing how it began on Wednesday, but it made me realize one thing: I need to go to bed earlier. On Wednesday, I was kind of nervous but Laura (my host teacher) soon eased my nerves (this was the first day I met her). It was a long day of meetings but it wasn't too bad. During the afternoon, I went and saw the presentation given by Dr. Daggett. At first, I was afraid that I might fall asleep but that did not happen. Dr. Daggett is an amazing speaker and the two hours flew by. I saw the gorilla but when I saw it I got distracted and missed a couple of the passes.
On Thursday, I went to another meeting about 3-Tier Literacy Instruction. The meeting introduced us to the new policy adopted by Mon county. The presentation went well and was interesting. Second grade lost their second recess time, they did not seem too happy about that. That afternoon was spent getting the room ready for the parent meeting on Friday.
Friday was the parent meeting. I think it went well. We were missing a lot more parents than expected. The parents who did come seemed very nice and excited. During the afternoon, I spent my time writing the students' names on name tags and other preparation things as well. Laura spent a lot of time calling parents about the home visits we will be doing this week. This is the first time I have ever heard of home visits, it seems kind of weird to me. Well, I will let you know how things go.
You are such a digital native! I didn't see the gorilla! I didn't count right either!
ReplyDeleteHome visits are very valuable tools to gain information about the lives of students outside school. I have mixed feelings about 2nd grade losing the recess time.
Allison, I thought Daggett was thought-provoking. (Gotta admit I didn't see the gorilla!) I came away really wanting a PDA with a projected keyboard! :-)Sarah
ReplyDeleteHmmm, not a digital native, by any means, but I did see the gorilla. Only because I knew there was going to be some sort of trick.
